About Us

 Dr Melanie Blenkin is a private General Adult and Perinatal Psychiatrist who provides care through both in-person consultations and telehealth. She offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management for adults aged 18 and over, with a focus on general mental health conditions, fertility and reproductive mental health, antenatal and postnatal care, and mental health during the perimenopause and menopause transition.

Her areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, depressive and anxiety disorders, obsessive–compulsive disorder, trauma-related conditions, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Dr Blenkin provides wholistic care for both women and men. Her practice encompasses thorough assessment, accurate diagnosis, and the development of individualised management plans. Treatment may include medication management, evidence-based psychological strategies, and lifestyle strategies enhancing overall wellbeing. She works collaboratively with patients, their families, and other healthcare providers, and is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and empathetic therapeutic environment.

Her specialised perinatal services include preconception counselling and medication management for individuals with pre-existing mental health conditions; support throughout pregnancy, the postnatal period, breastfeeding, and early parenting; and, where appropriate, assessment and support for applications for compassionate release of superannuation for medical treatments, including IVF. She also provides care for individuals experiencing complex grief and trauma related to infertility, IVF, and pregnancy loss, as well as hormone-related mood conditions such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), perimenopause, and menopause.

Dr Blenkin completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland and gained clinical experience in Brisbane and Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. She undertook her junior doctor training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital before completing specialist psychiatry training across Brisbane and Sydney. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and has broad experience in acute adult inpatient psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, and private practice. She is fully registered with AHPRA and holds current Medicare provider numbers.
